GREAT WESTERN AIR AMBULANCE

RIDE-ALONG OBSERVER SHIFTS ON THE PARAMEDIC CAR

(What you should know)

Shift Times

The ride along shifts are 13:00-01:l00 on Thursday to Sunday evenings when there are enough paramedics availabe. In order to get the most from your shifts, we would recommend that each shift you undertake, you should aim to be there for the duration, although doing partial shifts may be possible with prior agreement.

Location

All shifts operate from the GWAA Airbase at Filton Airfield with is a hanger on the airfield. You will need to be escorted across the airfield to get to the airbase. If your shift starts before 1900 during the week, or 1700 at weekends, you can access the airfield via the gate directly off the A38, almost opposite Filton College. You will need to be escorted across the airfield, and sign in at "Flight Ops". However, if you are working outside these hours, access will need to be gained via the gate by the fire station - A38 heading towards M5, just off slip road to gyspy patch lane, before the Royal Mail building. To get an escort across the airfield please phone the Base line - 0117 9315885

What to Wear

Smart/casual would be order of the day. Walking or trecking trousers, (blue, green or black) would be ideal. Then sweat shirt and or fleece top, (blue, green or black). No large logos please. We will provide you with a hi-vis jacket and a safety helmet for your shift. Boots or stout shoes are essential.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee is supplied by the ambulance Trust. However, you will probably be spending very little time on the base, so with this in mind, you should bring either packed refreshments or enough money to purchase food and drink whilst out and about.
